Intern(I) Visa 

Applicable for those who intend to pursue internship in Indian companies, Educational Institutions and NGOs. Interns who are sponsored by Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiqueset Commerciales (AIESEC) should also apply under this category of visa.

Eligibilities/Requirements 

The intern visa will be granted to those who have completed their graduation/post-graduation. The gap between the completion of graduation/post-graduation and the commencement of the internship should not be more than one year; 

A letter from the Indian company/educational institution/NGO concerned sponsoring for internship programme and clearly indicating the period of internship; 

An undertaking from the company/organization concerned that they will ensure departure of the intern on completion of the internship; 

In case the internship is in a Company, the foreign national being sponsored by internship should draw a minimum remuneration of Rs. 7.80 lakhs per annum. There will be no minimum salary limit in the case of internship in Educational institutional and NGOs. Earnings from internship will be subjected to the Indian Income Tax Regulations. 

Other conditions 

Intern visa will not be granted for internship in sectors like Defence, Telecom, Space Technology, Construction/strategic infrastructure projects, Mining, Civil Aviation, Petroleum & Natural Gas exploration, Private security agencies, Human Rights, Nuclear Energy, Environmental issues and Dams; 

Interns after landing in India will have to register themselves with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreign Registration Officer (FRO) concerned within 14 days of arrival in India if continuous stay is for more than 180 days. Specific endorsement to this effect will be made in the Visa sticker by the concerned Indian authorities. 

Under no circumstances, the interns will be allowed to take up employment in India immediately after completion of the internship programme. Conversion of the Intern visa into Employment visa or any other types of visa will not be permitted. 

Period of Visa : 

The period of visa shall be restricted to the duration of the internship programme or one year, whichever is less. 

Documents Required 

A letter from the Indian company/educational institution/NGO concerned sponsoring internship programme which enter-alia includes the following information;

1) Name of company/institute/NGO in India  
2)Address
3)Phone/Fax 
4)Email  
5)Duration of internship in months 
6)Annual remuneration to be received in INR
7) and an undertaking from the company/organization concerned that they will ensure departure of the intern on completion of the internship; 

Other documents as specified in the Checklist 

Important to Note: It normally takes 6 weeks for approval of Intern Visa. Hence applicants are required to apply at least 45 days prior to the date of internship.
